I appreciated the many very valid points you make here. However, I'm wondering if perhaps I detect the lens of an introvert, or at least someone who finds individual disciplines come easily to them.
I only wonder this because a) as an extrovert, I've always only ever been able to engage in disciplines with other people and I struggle to engage in the more solitary disciplines, haha and b) as I read your post, I realize my writings are through an extroverted lens I didn't realize was there! So thanks for that revelation!
In our community we are about to begin experimenting with communal disciplines. We are going to try some different things and see what happens. It’s good to see this conversation happening.
As I commented on your post on this matter a few weeks back, I really appreciate the challenge here to not allow spiritual formation to devolve into private practices in piety, but rather providing a social imagination for the environment in which formation takes place!
love it. thanks for putting this together Fitch. One question though, did I miss a connection between St. Paddy's day (your photo) and the blog? I mean, I love a good St. Paddy's day so you've got my full support here.
